Newton Edwin Gammon was born on 14 December 1883, the son of Edwin B Gammon and his wife Hetty. He worked for Union of London & Smiths Bank at its London Holborn Circus branch. He was also a member of the bank's staff sports club.
Early in the First World War Gammon left the bank to go on military service. Corporal Newton Edwin Gammon of the London Regiment died on the first day of the Battle of the Somme, 1 July 1916. He was 32 years old.
Newton Gammon is commemorated on a bank war memorial at NatWest City of London office, and on another held at NatWest Group Archives.
