John Garson

John Rae Garson was born on 8 June 1899, the son of John Rae Garson, a farmer, and his wife Maggie. In August 1915, when he was 16 years old, he went to work for National Bank of Scotland as an apprentice in its Stromness branch.

 

During the First World War Garson left the bank to join the army, serving as a Private in the Black Watch (Royal Highlanders). He was killed in action on the Western Front on 10 April 1918. He was 18 years old
