Harold George Grice was born on 31 December 1890, the son of William and Ada Grice. In January 1910, when he was 19 years old, he went to work for London County & Westminster Bank.

In July 1915 Grice left his job as a clerk at the bank's Lewes branch to join the army. By 1918 he was a Lieutenant with the Royal Scots (Lothian Regiment). He died on 28 March 1918 of wounds received in action. He was 27 years old.
