Disney Fayle Grant was born on 30 September 1883, the son of Higginson Fayle Grant, a bank worker, and his wife Lucy Jane. In April 1900, when Grant was 16 years old, he went to work for National Provincial Bank of England, where his father had worked before his retirement. Grant started as an apprentice at Bedminster branch and three years later, after completing his apprenticeship, he moved to Bristol branch as a clerk.
During the First World War Grant joined the army, serving as a Bombardier in the Royal Field Artillery. He died in Belgium on 20 July 1917. He was 33 years old.
