Bernard Grigg was born on 3 October 1899, the son of Frank Grigg, a clerk in the Post Office Savings Bank, and his wife Milly. He was educated at Westminster City School and Strand School. In February 1916, when Grigg was 16 years old, he went to work for National Provincial Bank of England as an apprentice at its London office.
When he was old enough, Grigg joined the army, serving as a Private in the London Regiment. He died in France on 26 June 1918. He was 18 years old.
