James John Fitzgibbon was born in London on 25 January 1898, the son of James Garnett Fitzgibbon, a builder's clerk, and his wife Florence Mary. In July 1915 he went to work for The National Bank.
During the First World War Fitzgibbon left his job at the bank's London Bayswater branch to join the army, serving as a Gunner in the Royal Garrison Artillery. He died on the Western Front on 16 June 1918. He was 20 years old.
James Fitzgibbon is commemorated on a bank war memorial at the Royal Bank of Scotland London Cavendish Square branch.
