Howard Fleet was born on 1 February 1897, the son of Walter and Susanna Fleet. In May 1914, when he was 17 years old, he went to work for London County & Westminster Bank.

In January 1916 Fleet left his job at the bank's London Limehouse branch to join the army, serving as a Private in the London Regiment. He died in France on 17th August 1918. He was 21 years old.
