Herbert Sands Farrow was born in Folkingham, Lincolnshire on 19 December 1890, the son of John and Harriet Farrow. He worked for Union of London & Smiths Bank at its Grantham branch.

During the First World War Farrow joined the army, serving as a Corporal in the East Surrey Regiment. He died on 21 November 1916. He was 25 years old.

Herbert Farrow is commemorated on a bank war memorial at NatWest City of London office.
