David George Frater was born on 16 August 1886, the son of David and Emily Frater. He worked for Union of London & Smiths bank at its London Princes Street office. He was a member of the bank's staff sports club.

 

Early in the First World War Frater left the bank to go on military service. In April 1917 he was commissioned into the Royal Field Artillery, and in March 1918 he was awarded the Military Cross for conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. Second Lieutenant David George Frater died in France on 16 April 1918. He was 31 years old.

 

David Frater is commemorated on a bank war memorial at NatWest City of London office and on another held at NatWest Group Archives.
