William H Ellis was born on 4 August 1894 and joined the staff of London County & Westminster Bank in June 1911, working as a boy messenger at the bank's London Lombard Street office. 

During the First World War Ellis left the bank to go on military service. No more information about him has been found, except that he was included in Lombard Street office's memorial to its fallen staff. This memorial is now located at NatWest City of London office.
