John William Evans

John William Evans was born in Matlock Bath in 1892, the son of William Warren Evans, a railway clerk, and his wife Mary Elizabeth. From about 1907 he worked for Parr's Bank.
During the First World War Evans left his job at the bank's Derby Corn Market branch to join the army. By 1917 he was a Second Lieutenant in the Sherwood Foresters (Notts and Derby Regiment). He died on 10 April 1917 of wounds received in action on the Western Front. He was 24 years old.
John Evans is commemorated on a bank war memorial at NatWest Allenton Derby branch.
