Horace Norman Dudley Evans was born on 13 May 1893. In August 1912, when he was 19 years old, he went to work for London County & Westminster Bank, and by 1915 was a clerk at its London Victoria branch.

During the First World War Evans joined the army, serving as a Private in the Royal Fusiliers. He died in Belgium on 3 May 1915, ten days before his 22nd birthday.
