Gwynne Edmunds
Bank: National Provincial Bank of England
Place of work: Carmarthen branch
Died: 20 July 1916
Gwynne Rhys Edmunds was born on 26 April 1896. He was educated at Tollington Park College, Hornsey and Llandilo County School.
In March 1913, the month before his 17th birthday, he went to work as an apprentice in the Carmarthen branch of National Provincial Bank of England. By that time his father, who had been a director and buyer in a London firm of wholesale warehousemen, had died, and his mother was a widow. Edmunds progressed well at the bank, and his manager reported to head office that he was 'gentlemanly and steady; good worker and promising.'
During the First World War Edmunds left the bank to go on military service, and by 1916 he was a Lieutenant in the Royal Welsh Fusiliers. He was killed in action in France on 20 July 1916. He was 20 years old.
