George Elliott

George Ashton Elliott was born in Lancashire on 6 June 1877, the younger son of Edward Elliott, a bookkeeper, and his wife Sarah Ann. He was educated at The Hulme Grammar School, Manchester, and later went to work for Williams Deacon's Bank.

 

In July 1915 Elliott left his job at the bank's Manchester head office to join the army. Lance Corporal George Ashton Elliott of the Royal Fusiliers was killed in action on the Western Front on 20 July 1916. He was 39 years old and left a widow, Alice, whom he had married in September 1915.
