Charles Edkins was born on 24 August 1886. On New Year's Day 1904, when he was 17 years old, he went to work for London & County Bank. In 1909 London & County Bank merged with London & Westminster Bank, and Edkins became an employee of the enlarged London County & Westminster Bank.
In 1916 Edkins left his job as a clerk at the bank's London Aldersgate Street branch to join the army. In April 1918 he was commissioned into the London Regiment. Second Lieutenant Charles Edkins was killed in action in Belgium on 30 October 1918. He was 32 years old.
Charles Edkins is commemorated on a bank war memorial at NatWest London Barbican branch.
