William Densham

William David Densham was born on 20 November 1894, the son of William Densham, a bank worker, and his wife Jessie Margaret. By 1911, when Densham was 16 years old, his father was manager of National Provincial Bank of England's London High Holborn branch. In May that year, Densham also went to work for the bank, as apprentice at its London Marylebone branch.

 

Densham completed his three-year apprenticeship in April 1914, and stayed on at Marylebone as a clerk. In May 1915 he transferred to London Strand branch.

 

During the First World War Densham joined the army, serving as a Private in the Gordon Highlanders. He died in France on 23 April 1917. He was 22 years old.

 

William Densham is commemorated on a bank war memorial held at NatWest Group Archives.
