Wilfred Spencer Dane was born on 15 June 1895, the son of William Tucker Dane and his wife Emily. In October 1914, when he was 19 years old, Dane left his job as a laboratory assistant at Alleyn's School, Dulwich, to join London County & Westminster Bank at its London West End office. Just a month later, however, he left the bank to join the army.
Second Lieutenant Wilfred Spencer Dane of the Worcestershire Regiment was killed in action in France on 18 November 1916. He was 21 years old.
Wilfred Dane is commemorated on a bank war memorial at NatWest London St James & Piccadilly branch where his name is given as William Dane.
