Thomas Arthur Dougall was born on 4 April 1887, the son of David and Jessie Dougall. In February 1902, when he was 14 years old, he went to work for Commercial Bank of Scotland. Four years later, in June 1906, he was appointed to the staff of its London office.

 

During the First World War Dougall left the bank to join the army, serving as a Private in the Royal Scots (Lothian Regiment). He died in hospital in Rouen on 27 July 1916 of wounds received in action in Flanders. He was 29 years old.

 

Thomas Dougall is commemorated on a bank war memorial at 36 St Andrew Square, Edinburgh.
