Norman William Dean was born in Hindley, Lancashire, in 1897, the son of Joseph and Lavinia Dean. In about 1913 he went to work for Parr's Bank, where his older brother Arthur was already an employee.
In October 1916 Dean left his job at the bank's Hindley branch to go on military service. Private Norman William Dean of The Loyal North Lancashire Regiment was killed in action on 20 September 1918. He was 20 years old. His brother Arthur had been killed in action on the Somme six months earlier.
Norman Dean is commemorated on a bank war memorial at NatWest Hindley branch.
