Hugh Dart

Hugh Dart was born in Toxteth Park, Liverpool in 1881, the son of Richard Dart, a fruit broker, local alderman and Justice of the Peace, and his wife Ellen. He was educated at Harrow School and Trinity College, Cambridge. In 1904 he went to work for Parr's Bank, and worked at its London Cavendish Square and Kensington branches before being appointed to the head office metropolitan inspection staff in March 1912.

 

In September 1914 Dart joined the army. In early 1915 he was commissioned into the York and Lancaster Regiment. Captain Hugh Dart died on 1 July 1916 of wounds received in action on the first day of the Battle of the Somme. He was 34 years old.

 

Hugh Dart is commemorated on a bank war memorial held at NatWest Group Archives.
