David Alexander Dunbar was born in Elgin in 1897, the son of Charles and Beatrice Dunbar. In June 1913 he went to work for Commercial Bank of Scotland as an apprentice at its Elgin branch.

 

During the First World War Dunbar joined the army, and by 1918 he was a Corporal in the Seaforth Highlanders. He died in Elgin on 9 June 1918 of wounds received in action. He was 21 years old.

 

David Dunbar is commemorated on a bank war memorial at 36 St Andrew Square, Edinburgh.
