William Raymond Corley was born on 28 January 1895, the son of William Corley and his wife Marian. In February 1912, when he was 17 years old, Corley went to work for London County & Westminster Bank.
During the first weeks of the First World War Corley left his job as a clerk at the bank's Beckenham branch to join the army. By 1918 he was a Second Lieutenant in the East Surrey Regiment, and had been mentioned in dispatches. He was killed in action in France on 27 March 1918. He was 23 years old.
William Corley is commemorated on a bank war memorial held at NatWest Bromley branch.
