Tom Gamble Capes was born in Eccles, Lancashire in about 1896, the only child of Tom Sydney Capes and his wife Caroline. He started working for Parr's Bank in about 1911.
During the First World War Capes left his job at the bank's Manchester Docks branch to join the army, serving as a Private in the Royal Fusiliers. He died in a German field hospital on 12 October 1916 of wounds received in action on the Western Front. He was 19 years old.
Tom Capes is commemorated on a bank war memorial at NatWest Monton branch.
