Cleveland Hugh Chambers was born on 25 March 1894, the son of Walter Chambers and his wife Harriett Frances.

 

In March 1913, shortly before his 19th birthday, Chambers went to work for London County & Westminster Bank.

 

During the First World War Chambers left his job as a clerk at the bank's London Law Courts branch to join the army. By the time of his death in September 1916 he was a Second Lieutenant in the Royal Berkshire Regiment. Chambers died in France on 3 September 1916. He was 22 years old.

 

Cleveland Chambers is commemorated on a bank war memorial held at NatWest Group Archives.
