Charles Albert Coldwells was born on 15 June 1895, the son of Joseph George Coldwells, a clerk, and his wife Elizabeth. In November 1913 he went to work for Coutts & Co.
In January 1914 Coldwells became a territorial soldier, joining the Surrey Yeomanry. He was mobilised immediately upon the outbreak of war on 4 August 1914, and was commissioned into the Royal Field Artillery. Second Lieutenant Charles Albert Coldwells was killed in action at Loos on 28 September 1915. He was 20 years old. Two of his three brothers were also killed in the war.
Charles Coldwells is commemorated on a bank war memorial at Coutts & Co, London 440 Strand.
