Arthur Johnson Cox was born on 22 May 1882, the son of John William Cox and his wife Susan Ann. In June 1900, when he was 18 years old, he went to work for London & County Bank. In 1909 London & County Bank merged with London & Westminster Bank, and Cox became an employee of the enlarged London County & Westminster Bank.
In January 1915 Cox left his job as a clerk at the bank's London Bayswater branch to join the army. Second Lieutenant Arthur Johnson Cox of the East Yorkshire Regiment was killed in action in France on 3 May 1917. He was 34 years old and left a widow, Ethel Mary, whom he had married in August 1916.
Arthur Cox is commemorated on a bank war memorial at NatWest London Notting Hill Gate branch.
