Tom Bristow was born on 8 November 1897, the son of Thomas Bristow, an auctioneer and farmer, and his wife Kate. He was educated at Overton National School and County School, Wrexham.
In about 1915 Bristow went to work for National Provincial Bank of England as apprentice at its Hanley branch. He later joined the army, serving as a Private in the Royal Welsh Fusiliers. He was killed in action in France on 23 April 1917. He was 19 years old.
