Robert Gerald Beer was born on 1 October 1894, the son of Robert and Lettice Beer. He worked for Union of London & Smiths Bank at its London Chancery Lane branch. He was also a member of the bank's staff sports club.
Beer joined the army during the first year of the First World War, originally in the London Regiment and later as a Second Lieutenant in The Buffs (East Kent Regiment). He died in France on 30 November 1917. He was 23 years old.
Robert Beer is commemorated on a bank war memorial at NatWest City of London office and on another held at NatWest Group Archives.
