Norman Frederick Button was born in 1894, the son of Jonah Button, a company secretary, and his wife Emmeline. He worked for Parr's Bank from about 1910.
During the First World War Button left his job at the bank's Weston-super-Mare branch to join the army. Lieutenant Norman Frederick Button of the Somerset Light Infantry was killed in action in France on 4 November 1917. He was 23 years old.
