Norman Henry Barnett was born on 8 May 1889, the son of James Samuel Barnett and his wife Priscilla Ann. He worked for Union of London & Smiths Bank, and at the time of the outbreak of the First World War was a clerk in the bank's Southampton Union Bank branch.
Barnett volunteered for the army in August 1914, and continued to serve throughout the war. He died of fever in Mesopotamia on 4 November 1918, just one week before the signing of the Armistice. He was a Private in the Hampshire Regiment, and was 29 years old.
Norman Barnett is commemorated on a bank war memorial at NatWest City of London office.
