Leslie Victor Bittles was born on 20 February 1891, the son of Frederick William Bittles and his wife Beatrice. He worked for Union of London & Smiths Bank at its London Prescott's office, Cornhill, and was a member of the bank's staff sports club.

 

Bittles joined the army during the first year of the First World War, serving as a Lance Corporal in the London Regiment. He died in Belgium on 23 September 1917. He was 26 years old.

 

Leslie Bittles is commemorated on a bank war memorial at NatWest City of London office and on another held at NatWest Group Archives.
