Place of work: Whitehaven branch
Died: 7 October 1916
Henry Hartley Robertson Bragg was born in 1896, the only son of John Henry Cowman Bragg, a farm labourer, and his wife Sarah Ann, a dressmaker. In November 1911 Bragg went to work for Bank of Whitehaven as an apprentice at its head office. In 1916 the bank was acquired by Manchester & Liverpool District Banking Co, and Bragg was transferred to the staff of the larger bank.
By that time, however, Bragg was already away on military service. He joined the army in January 1916 and was killed in action on the Somme on 7 October 1916, while serving as a Private in the Royal Fusiliers. He was 20 years old.
