Eric George Blake was born on 18 June 1895, the son of Walter Blake. In April 1913, when he was 17 years old, he went to work for London County & Westminster Bank.

In January 1916 Blake left his post as a clerk at the bank's London Borough branch to join the army, serving as a Private in the London Regiment. He died in France on 4 December 1917. He was 22 years old.
