Charles Leonard Burch was born on 11 June 1892, the son of Alfred and Elizabeth Burch. He worked for Union of London & Smiths Bank at its London Goswell Road branch.

Early in the First World War Burch joined the army. In April 1915 was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the Middlesex Regiment. He died in France on 18 August 1916. He was 24 years old.
