Thomas Gresham Allen was born in 1877, the son of Thomas and Jemima Allen. From about 1895 he worked for Parr's Bank, and was also a member of the bank's staff sports club.

Allen attested for military service in December 1915. He was mobilised in May 1917, leaving his job as a clerk at the bank's London Bartholomew Lane office to serve as a Private in the Honourable Artillery Company. He was killed in action in Belgium on 9 October 1917. He was 40 years old.
