Arthur Arthur was born in Shetland in 1890, the son of Adam Arthur and Margaret Arthur. He worked for Commercial Bank of Scotland, rising to the position of accountant at its Lerwick branch.

During the First World War Arthur joined the army, serving as a Corporal in the Gordon Highlanders. He died on 11 September 1917 of wounds received in action in France. He was 27 years old.

Arthur Arthur is commemorated on a bank war memorial at 36 St Andrew Square, Edinburgh.
